Getting started#

Do I need an account to write?#

Yes. Anyone with a Wyoot account can write, and there is no application. Open the editor, sign in, and start a story. See Your first story in 10 minutes.

Do I need to know how to code?#

No. Everything is a control in the editor, and there is no syntax to learn. See Coming from Twine, ChoiceScript or Ink if you have used code-based tools before.

Which language should I write in?#

English. That is the only language Wyoot supports for stories right now.

Writing#

How many endings should I write?#

Four to seven works well. Fewer than four gives readers little reason to replay, and more than seven gets hard to manage. Include at least one secret ending. See Endings.

How long should a scene be?#

Short. Wyoot's own scenes stay under about 300 words, and the editor warns you above 1,750 characters. See Scenes.

Can I put pictures inside a scene?#

Not in the editor. You can upload a cover image. See Story details and cover.

Can two people write one story?#

Not at the moment. A story has one owner. You can share a draft for feedback without giving anyone editing access. See Preview, share and submit.

My scene says "No choices available here" in the preview#

Every choice in that scene is hidden by its checks at that point. Give the scene at least one choice that always shows. See Debugging your logic.

Why does a number in my text look out of date?#

Printed values are fixed at the moment the reader arrives at the scene, so an earlier scene never changes after the fact. See Showing values in the text.

Sharing and submitting#

How do I get feedback before I submit?#

Use Share this draft in the three-dot menu to make a private link that anyone can read, with no account. You can stop sharing whenever you like. See Preview, share and submit.

Why is Submit disabled?#

Either the Validation card has errors, or you have not finished your author profile. The tooltip on the button says which. See Validation messages.

Can I edit a story while it is in review?#

No. It is locked while an editor reads it. Choose Cancel submission in the three-dot menu to bring it back to draft.

What do editors look for?#

Writing that is your own, permission to use any picture you uploaded, every path reaching an ending, and enough real branching that a second read feels different. See Preview, share and submit.

Can I change a story after it is published?#

Yes. Keep editing, then submit your changes as a revision. Readers see the old version until an editor approves the new one. See Preview, share and submit.

Can I copy a story, or put one away?#

Duplicate as a new draft makes an independent copy with its own history. Archive puts a story away, and Restore from archive brings it back. Both are in the three-dot menu.

After publishing#

Can readers comment?#

Yes, on the story and on individual scenes. As the author you can hide a comment.

Can I see how readers are doing?#

Once a story is published, Reader analytics in the three-dot menu shows how readers move through it.

Does everything work in the mobile app?#

The website always supports every feature. If a story uses a feature that needs a newer version of the mobile app than a reader has, they are asked to update before opening it.

Still stuck?#
