Welcome

What you can build, and which pages to read first.

On this page

Wyoot stories are short and branching. At the end of each scene the reader picks what happens next, and every path finishes at an ending. Most stories take under ten minutes to read. Readers tend to come back and replay to find the endings they missed.

You write them in the Wyoot editor, and there is no code to learn. These docs start with the basics and build toward stories that remember what the reader did earlier.

A typical story: paths split, rejoin, and end in different places. The colored outlines are ending types.

How these docs work#

  • The sidebar lists every topic in the order to read them. A topic marked Soon is planned and not written yet.
  • Most pages open with a strip that says where to jump if you already know the material.
  • The list on the right (under the title on a small screen) links to the sections of the page you are on.
  • A box labeled Try it is a real story you can play. It runs the same engine your readers will use, and some of them show what the story remembers as you go.
  • Press Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) to search.

What you need#

A Wyoot account. Anyone with an account can write. Open the editor whenever you are ready.

Your work saves as you type, and nothing goes live until you submit it and an editor approves it. You can experiment as much as you like.

What a finished story looks like#

Wyoot's own stories usually have 8 to 20 scenes and 4 to 7 endings, and take 4 to 10 minutes to read. That is a guide, not a rule. A story with three scenes and two endings is a fine place to start, and Your first story in 10 minutes builds exactly that.
